Custom t-shirts make for great gifts – not just for personal reasons, but also to give your employees during a corporate event, or to wear on casual Fridays to motivate them and strengthen the team spirit. They are attractive, economical, and probably one of the most effective marketing tools.
However, they need to be maintained! You don’t want your employees turning up in dull, washed-out t-shirts within a month of gifting them. To make sure that your investment pays off, first of all, make sure you choose a good t-shirt printing company that doesn’t compromise on quality! Good-quality custom t-shirts are far more durable, and don’t fade easily either.
Then, you just need to follow (or get your employees to follow) a few simple ways to get your custom t-shirts to last longer!
How To Ensure That Your Custom T-Shirts Last Longer
Here are a few tips to ensure that your custom t-shirts are in top condition for longer…
1. Fold them well
Remember that one chair with the pile of clothes left in the same state for days on end? Leaving your custom t-shirts in a similar, wrinkled state for a very long time can effectively ruin them! A simple step of folding them well can make your t-shirts far more durable.
2. Follow the prescribed maintenance rules
We often tend to miss the washing conditions given at the back of shirts and t-shirts. When we are talking about custom t-shirts, it becomes more critical to handle them in the manner the fabric demands, as the inks used can fade and the quality can get degraded.
So, whether the prescribed mode is machine wash, hand wash, dry wash, iron or no iron, follow the conditions!
There are some conventional methods that you should be aware of while handling your custom t-shirt, to keep them in good condition. Some of them include not using a dryer, trying to reduce the frequency of washing the t-shirts, using a dewrinkler, among others.
You can always bank on the advice of other people who have been in a similar situation in the past. Online reviews will be of great help too.
3. Wash them separately
It may so happen that when you wash your custom t-shirt along with other clothes, the dye used in bleaching the other clothes might ruin the colour. Or the fabric might be such that it may absorb the colours from other clothes. It is always better to wash them separately.
Additionally, don’t brush them too hard – you don’t want to end up brushing away the logo or the design embossed on it. Make sure you wash it gently.
4. Do not stretch
What do you do if a t-shirt doesn’t fit? You stretch it down by the sides! While this may work for the moment, the fabric quality takes a hit when the t-shirt is stretched like that. Not only will it compromise the life of your t-shirt, it won’t look that great either!
5. Store it properly
Don’t throw away your custom t-shirt in a corner – make sure you store them appropriately. Take steps to avoid rodents and pests by using naphthalene balls. You can also make use of airtight containers for the same. Also, store them away from direct sunlight.
6. Be careful with ironing
It is always good to keep your iron at a distance from your custom printed t-shirt. But if the need to iron arises, use it at low temperatures, preferably at the opposite side of the t-shirt.
This will help protect the logo or any other design that has been embossed from high temperatures. Also, exposing the fabric to very high temperatures could also cause the colour of the t-shirt to fade earlier than usual.
7. Remove those spills immediately
If you or your employees wear custom t-shirts regularly, it’s difficult to protect them from stains! While you can’t avoid them, you can certain take the necessary steps to prevent stains from lodging deep into the fibres. Make sure you don’t spill oil on them though – oil stains are rather stubborn!
If you are planning to order custom t-shirts, make sure your employees, or anybody else you’re gifting them to, know how to maintain them well. Custom t-shirts, when cared for, can last as long as you want them to.
